At ESL we are highly experienced at designing and creating ponds and watercourses for a variety of ecological purposes including:
ESL can design waterbodies to meet your project requirements, whether you need to provide habitat to meet planning obligations, to attract certain species to increase a site’s biodiversity value, or simply because you want to create a pond!
Our in-house team will design and create a pond or watercourse to meet your individual project objectives. If you already have a design, our in-house ground workers can construct it for you. On clay sites, we can dig into the natural and ‘puddle’ the basin, elsewhere we use either quality butyl or bentonite geo-textile liners.
If required, we can plant the pond up with locally native species to make your pond look as natural as possible and advise on species to avoid if your pond is lined. All of our staff have appropriate licences to work with statutorily protected species and are experienced at working within the restrictions of European Protected Species licences.
Without proper management, ponds have a tendency to become overgrown, and all that’s needed is a little targeted work in order to restore them. We also provide pond management services including scrub clearance, slubbing out and re-planting for more established ponds.
Creating running watercourse for water voles is a real art and needs to be done properly to ensure that the feature contains sufficient water to function as a habitat but doesn’t overflow. We have created such watercourses in the past with great success.
ESL also have extensive experience of collaborating with other professionals, including Landscape Architects, Planning Consultants and Engineers for large scale development Master Plans such as Cambourne. Read the Cambourne New Town Development case study.
